Pickleball court dimensions: what you need to know

The key to taking your pickleball game to the next level is not just good technique, but also the comfortable place to play. Whether you are preparing for a serious competition, organising a friendly match or preparing a temporary pitch for an event, knowing the basic dimensions and areas of the pitch is key to a complete and fun experience.

Main dimensions of the course

The pickleball court resembles an indoor badminton court and has the following standard dimensions:

  • Length: 13.41 meters (44 feet)

  • Width: 6.10 meters (20 feet)

These sizes apply to both singles and doubles - there is no change in area.

The net - the heart of the course

In the centre of the court is a grid that divides the space into two equal parts. Its height varies:

  • 91.44 cm (36 inches) at the lateral lines

  • 86.36 cm (34 inches) in the centre

This slight curve is characteristic of pickleball and contributes to the dynamics of the game.

The "Kitchen" or Non-Volley area

You may have heard the strange term "kitchen" in the context of pickleball. It's actually Non-Volley area - and is of utmost importance:

  • Located on 2.13 meters (7 feet) on each side of the network

  • Players are not allowed to hit the ball in the air (volley) while in this zone

This creates a more tactical and balanced game where precision trumps power.

Serving areas

The course is divided into two service halves - right and left:

  • Right Service Area

  • Left Service Area

These zones are separated by central line (Centerline), which runs perpendicular to the grid. Each service begins on the right side and alternates with each successive point.

Main and side lines

  • Baseline: located at the rearmost part of each half

  • Sideline: runs the length of the course

Knowing these lines is important not only when serving, but also to be able to judge whether the ball is "in" or "out".

Why are these dimensions important?

A well-designed playground is not just a luxury - it is the foundation of the fair play, Safety и the ultimate pleasure from sports. With properly demarcated zones, every draw is clear and the rules are followed with ease.
